US embassy in London warns to 'exercise caution' near Jewish sites in UK, Europe after antisemitic attacks

The U.S. Embassy in London issued a cautionary advisory to Americans on Friday, urging them to remain vigilant while visiting areas associated with Jewish and American interests in the UK and across Europe. This alert comes amidst a troubling surge in threats targeting these communities.

The embassy highlighted recent incidents, emphasizing the need for increased awareness due to attacks and threats aimed at Jewish and American establishments throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

In particular, U.S. citizens are advised to be especially cautious when frequenting places that serve Jewish or American interests. This includes maintaining heightened alertness during visits to tourist spots, expatriate communities, and places of worship. Citizens are also encouraged to review their personal security plans and stay informed through local news outlets.

To bolster safety while traveling, Americans can enroll in the State Department’s Safe Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides timely travel and security updates.

This advisory follows a string of antisemitic incidents in recent months. Notably, on March 23, an arson attack was perpetrated against four ambulances associated with a Jewish charity in London. Additionally, on April 18, the Kenton United Synagogue in London was attacked, and there was an explosion in March at a Jewish school in Amsterdam, which authorities have identified as a “targeted attack against the Jewish community.”

The advisory followed a series of recent antisemitic attacks in the UK and in Europe, including an arson attack on four ambulances linked to a Jewish charity in London on March 23, an April 18 attack on the Kenton United Synagogue in London, and a March explosion at a Jewish school in Amsterdam that authorities called a “targeted attack against the Jewish community.”

No one was injured, but the school was damaged.

UK authorities are investigating whether “thugs for hire” backed by Iran are instigating the attacks in London, GB News reported.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the Jewish Chronicle: “In relation to malign state actors more generally, proscription, we do need legislation in order to take necessary measures, and that is legislation that we’re bringing forward as soon as we can.”
