Buc-ee's pulls in extraordinary sum on 'biggest grand opening ever'

The beloved retail chain is cashing in big time!

Excited Buc-ee’s fans in Ohio didn’t mind spending the night outdoors, eagerly awaiting the opening of the state’s first branch. This feverish anticipation translated into a wildly successful first day for the store bearing the iconic beaver logo.

Ohio’s debut Buc-ee’s shattered all projections, raking in an astonishing $1 million or more in sales on its opening day. Local officials celebrated the April 6 launch as a historic success for the famed chain.

The new mega fuel-and-food destination in Huber Heights reported record-breaking sales on its first day, with company executives noting that no previous opening had achieved similar results.

Huber Heights Mayor Jeff Gore expressed amazement at the overwhelming response, describing the opening day on Facebook as ‘crazy.’ He confirmed that sales quickly surpassed the million-dollar threshold within hours.

Thousands of enthusiastic shoppers lined up well before the doors opened, with many camping out at the gas station. They braved the night with blankets and folding chairs, eager to be among the first to experience the buzz of Buc-ee’s.

The Texas-based sensation, launched back in 1982, has built a devoted following thanks to bargain fuel, mountains of beef jerky, iconic brisket sandwiches, and its ever-present beaver-themed merchandise.

With 55 locations nationwide, the Huber Heights branch – located off State Route 235 near Interstate 70 – now stands as its northernmost site.

And the Buckeye State isn’t done yet. A second Ohio location is already in the works in Mansfield, near the busy Interstate 71 and Ohio 39 junction, after planners gave the project the green light earlier this month.

The economic ripple effect is already being felt. Hotels across the area – from Huber Heights to nearby corridors – were packed out over opening weekend, offering an early glimpse of what could be a tourism boom.

While officials say it’s too soon to measure the full financial impact, one thing seems certain – this supersized pit stop is set to be a major money-spinner for the region.

Buc-ee’s has been aggressively expanding in recent months – rolling out ambitious plans to plant its supersized travel centers across even more states in 2026.

Lucky states include Arizona, Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, and Kentucky.

In March it was revealed that a state feeling less pleased about the opening of a Buc-ee’s was Virginia. The community of Stafford is up in arms about the installation of a 120-pump, 74,000-square-foot gas station in their backyard.

Right now, a Change.org petition has gathered more than 2,500 signatures, with many supporters packing a recent public meeting to passionately voice their opposition.

By the end of 2026, the ‘Disneyland of gas stations’ will open four more of its iconic outposts, with another 15 planned in the years that follow.

Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas are set to see the most new Buc-ee’s locations as the chain pushes deeper into the Southwest and Midwest.

As it plants its flag in new corners of the map, it promises more supersized pit stops with a hundred-plus gas pumps, a store packed with brisket and beaver nuggets, and famously clean bathrooms.

Buc-ee’s has a cult following, particularly among Gen-Z, thanks to its social media-friendly snacks and over-the-top scale.

Fan favorites include the Sausage on a Stick, Dr Pepper Icees and an entire wall of jerky.

The announcement of a new Buc-ee’s location in Fort Pierce, Florida, made headlines in January after early plans suggested the gas station would span 76,000 square feet – about half the size of a Walmart Supercenter and even bigger than the company’s current largest store in Luling, Texas.

More than a gas station, Buc-ee’s has turned pit stops into destinations.

Its football-field-sized travel centers pack in hundreds of pumps, restrooms that routinely win national awards, and an almost overwhelming selection of snacks, souvenirs and Texas-themed merchandise.

Inside, shoppers can find freshly made barbecue sandwiches, mountains of the chain’s famous Beaver Nuggets – the chain’s caramelized corn puff snack – house-brand jerky cut and packaged on site, and aisles of branded apparel emblazoned with Buc-ee’s grinning beaver mascot.
