The tragic cause of death for Dylan Carter, a former contestant on NBC’s The Voice, was announced following his passing at the age of 24 on Saturday.
Dylan Carter, known for his participation in Season 24 of The Voice during the fall of 2023, succumbed to blunt force trauma injuries from a car accident, as reported by TMZ.
According to the Colleton County coroner, the young singer’s death was classified as accidental. It was confirmed that he was wearing a seatbelt when the single-vehicle crash occurred.
On that fateful night, Carter was behind the wheel of a 2026 Tesla sedan driving along U.S. Route 21 in South Carolina, shortly after 11:00 p.m. His vehicle lost control, hit a pole and a fence, and eventually overturned.
The injuries from the crash proved fatal, and Carter, who was the sole occupant of the car, passed away at the hospital.
In his memorable blind audition on The Voice, Carter delivered a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You” from 2009, which impressed all four coaches—Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Niall Horan—earning him a four-chair turn.

Afterward, Carter told the judges that he had initially tried to perform the song at his mother’s funeral, but became too emotional.
“When I saw y’all turn around, I saw my mom,” he said. “She passed back in October, and she wanted me to sing it at her funeral. So I did it. I tried, but I couldn’t make it through it.”
“So this was the best second chance,” Carter added. “I just made her so proud.”
While on the show, Carter ended up selecting McEntire as his coach.
“We will miss Dylan so much,” the country music star wrote in a Facebook post following the news of Carter’s death. “He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice.”
“Rest in peace, my dear friend,” McEntire concluded.
