In the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” Robert Downey Jr. will portray Dr. Victor von Doom, who is poised to unleash chaos across the MCU. However, Doom is far from the most menacing figure in Marvel’s lineup of villains. Consider the Marquis of Death, a character who possesses the unsettling ability to wield his powers without conscious effort. Known in his past life as Clyde Wyncham, he was an ordinary comic book enthusiast until a traumatic head injury inflicted by his mother caused brain damage, interacting disastrously with his latent mutant abilities.

This tragic event led to Clyde inadvertently drawing numerous villains into his dimension. Emerging from a coma, he manages to return the villains to their rightful places, but his actions result in Reed Richards confining him indefinitely using a dream machine. Upon his resurrection, Clyde, now the Marquis of Death, embarks on a multiverse-spanning rampage, eliminating heroes. When Doctor Doom declines to take him as an apprentice, Clyde retaliates by imprisoning Doom in a dreamlike state, obliterating his world, and stealing his mask. Although Doom ultimately prevails, Clyde stands out in the Marvel universe as a rare villain capable of overpowering Doom with ease. While Doom can be more intimidating than Thanos, Clyde undeniably surpasses them both.

The Marquis of Death isn’t the sole Marvel villain who defies reason with his terrifying presence. Several other antagonists have made an impression on fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if they haven’t officially entered its storyline just yet.

Let’s not forget Infernal Hulk, a far cry from the Bruce Banner fans adore. This incarnation of Hulk is the personification of Eldest, an ancient being who consumed his mother to acquire his formidable powers. Unique in the multiverse, as he was not created by The One Above All, Infernal Hulk is a force of unimaginable might, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Carnage appeared in 2021’s “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” and anyone who’s seen that film knows exactly why he’s scarier than Doctor Doom. Arguably the most powerful symbiote in the Marvel world, and lacking a stringent moral code after bonding with criminal Cletus Kasady, Carnage kills because he likes to, he wants to, and he can. He does so without any discrimination as to what’s right and wrong, and that makes him a completely dangerous predator in the Marvel world.

Then there’s Infernal Hulk, who is definitely not the Bruce Banner fans know and love. This Hulk is the embodiment of Eldest, an ancient entity who ate his own mother to gain the powers he has. He is the only thing in the entire multiverse that wasn’t created by The One Above All, and is a monster of untold and unfathomable power who slaughters his own way across the multiverse.
