Make-A-Wish and Disney are making Broadway dreams come true

NEW YORK — For most theatergoers, attending a performance of “Aladdin” on Broadway might seem like just another enchanting evening. However, for teenagers Jillian Heath and Adonis Reed, this particular show marked a life-changing moment. Thanks to the efforts of Make-A-Wish and Disney, the magic of Broadway became a reality as these teens made their debut on the legendary stage.

Jillian, at just 14 years old, expressed her enthusiasm for this unforgettable experience. “I chose this wish because Broadway is such a renowned stage, and I thought it would be amazing to be on Broadway,” she shared, reflecting the excitement that filled the air.

The journey to the spotlight was nothing short of magical from the very start. Adonis, aged 16, fondly recalled a pivotal moment when the actor playing Aladdin reached out to him personally. “I knew my wish was granted when I saw the actor in character, and he told me, ‘your wish is granted!'” Adonis recounted, his excitement evident.

In the lead-up to their debut, the two young performers were showered with delightful surprises. They met with Broadway’s current Genie, received their own commemorative lamps, and experienced the thrill of professional costume fittings. Rehearsals with the entire show’s team further heightened their anticipation for the big night.

Jillian described the experience with delight, “This has been just so great. Meeting some of the cast was a highlight, and seeing the backstage area was really cool. Wearing a professionally-made Broadway costume felt incredible,” she enthused, capturing the essence of a dream realized.

“This experience has been just so great. I really liked being able to meet some of the cast, and it was really cool to see what backstage looked like,” Jillian said. “It felt so incredible to be in a professionally-made Broadway costume.”

For Adonis, one of the night’s biggest surprises was his name being shown on the marquee for that evening’s performance.

“When I saw my name on the marquee, I was so shocked,” Adonis recounted. “I was like, ‘is that my name?!’”

For both Adonis and Jillian, and their families, Make-A-Wish and Disney’s commitment to bringing kids’ dreams to life has meant the world.

“It’s amazing to see my son perform,” Adonis’ mom said. “To see his craft and his work come to life, I’m just over the moon. I’m excited!”

“Seeing Jillian’s light up on stage was just, like, wow,” Jillian’s mom added.

With a sprinkle of pixie dust, Disney and Make-A-Wish made Jillian and Adonis’ dreams come true, and created memories that will last a lifetime.

“Lasting Wishes: A Disney & Make-A-Wish Celebration” is now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of ABC Localish and this station.
