'Have not yet paid a big enough price'

President Donald Trump announced late Saturday that he is assessing a new proposal from Iran aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, as relations between the United States and the Islamic Republic remain strained.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “I will soon be examining the proposal sent by Iran, but I doubt it will be acceptable as they have not yet faced sufficient consequences for their actions over the last 47 years, affecting both humanity and the world.”

The former president shared this message shortly after speaking with reporters while boarding Air Force One in Florida. He expressed doubts about reaching an agreement with Iran.

“I’ll provide an update soon,” Trump commented, noting that he was waiting to review the specific language of the proposal.

This development follows the announcement that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened a meeting of his security cabinet scheduled for Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, during a briefing in West Palm Beach, Trump mentioned the possibility of the U.S. resuming military actions against Iran.

“If they misbehave, if they do something bad — but right now, we’ll see. It’s a possibility that could happen, certainly,” Trump said.

Worries of renewed armed conflict have been mounting after President Trump said he wasn’t satisfied with an apparent earlier Iranian offer amid prolonged diplomatic talks over the country’s nuclear weapons program and closure of the Straight of Hormuz.

“They want to make a deal, I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens,” Trump told reporters at the White House Friday.

He claimed that the Iranian government wanted to make a deal “so badly” but was too disjointed to make the concessions necessary to reach an agreement with the United States.

“They’re asking for things that I can’t agree to,” Trump said.

Iran has demanded the U.S. lift its blockade of the Straight of Hormuz before discussing the nuclear issue.

The U.S. blocked Iranian ships from using the maritime passageway after the Ayatollah regime cut off use of the straight for international commerce.

Iranian officials warned of a return to kinetic war after Trump suggested that the United States might be better off without a deal at an event in West Palm Beach also on Friday.

“Renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely,” Islamic Revolutionary Guard Officer Mohammad Jafar Asadi said.

Trump has voiced reluctance to return to war, but has threatened a massive response if the Islamic Republic refused to agree not to develop a nuclear weapon.

“There are the options: Do you want to go blast the hell out of ’em and finish them forever, or do we want to try and make a deal? I mean, those are the options,” he told reporters

As tensions in the region mount, CENTCOM Admiral Brad Cooper visited troops aboard the USS Tripoli in the Arabian Sea.

During the visit he “interacted with service members, recognized top performers, and toured various spaces throughout the amphibious assault ship, including the Combat Information Center,” CENTCOM posted on X.
