The Redondo Beach Pier in Southern California was evacuated as authorities responded to what has been described as a “suspicious circumstance.”
According to the Long Beach Police Department, all available officers, including the watch commander, were dispatched to the scene on Sunday morning. The Redondo Beach Police Department issued an evacuation order shortly after 11 a.m., instructing anyone near the pier to leave the area due to the ongoing police activity.
“There is police activity on the pier. We urge anyone in the vicinity to evacuate safely,” stated the department. “Please avoid the pier area until further notice.”
As a precaution, officials have also closed Catalina Avenue between Torrance Boulevard and Beryl Street. Details about the nature of the incident have not been revealed, and authorities have yet to disclose what triggered the substantial police presence.
