'Armed and dangerous' special forces veteran wanted for shooting wife in Tennessee

A former special forces operative, renowned for his “extensive” survival skills, has been evading capture for several days following an alleged shooting incident involving his wife at their residence in Tennessee, authorities report.

Craig Berry is being pursued on charges of second-degree attempted murder after allegedly shooting his wife at their Dover home around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, as stated by the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office.

Berry, who has retired from military special forces, reportedly escaped into nearby woods clad in camouflage gear before law enforcement could apprehend him, according to police officials.

His wife, whose identity remains undisclosed, was transported to a hospital following the domestic incident. Her current condition has not been released.

The sheriff’s department noted that the search for Berry, involving multiple agencies, might take considerable time. The area is densely forested, and Berry’s expertise in survival techniques, along with his skills as an “excellent swimmer and diver,” complicates the manhunt.

Authorities have labeled him as “armed and dangerous,” noting that he disappeared with at least one handgun and is suspected to have additional ammunition.

Berry is not believed to have a phone on him or have any other means of communication. Cops have also not yet ruled out that he has received “outside assistance” while on the lam.

He was last spotted near River Trace Road and wore camouflage clothing in a blurry trail camera photo released by the department.

Investigators have received no information indicating Berry is no longer in the area and will conduct a “very detailed search” from River Trace Road to parts of several highways with multiple law enforcement agencies this week.

“We are asking the public to report any activity or suspicious circumstances to 911,” police said in a statement.
