He addressed a crowd of reporters outside the hearing before following the directive.
The commission expressed its outrage in a statement, condemning the presence of the shirt near the venue.
“We are aware that NSW Police is handling the situation,” they noted.
“Ensuring the safety of witnesses is crucial to the Royal Commission. We want to assure both current and prospective participants that we have stringent safety measures in place.”
The statement continued, “The Royal Commission is committed to examining antisemitism in Australia without fear or intimidation.”
Individuals with firsthand experiences of antisemitism were encouraged to contribute to the public hearings.
Commissioner Virginia Bell delivered her interim report last Thursday and made 14 recommendations â all of which were accepted by the federal government â on how to respond to anti-Jewish hate and fracturing social cohesion.
The final report is due on December 14 this year.
