Donald Trump woos military mothers with shiny grin next to Melania

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were at the White House to pay tribute to military mothers in a heartfelt ceremony.

The event, held in the East Room, saw the President and First Lady joined by Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance. Together, they honored the significant sacrifices made by military mothers, leading up to the Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday.

In her speech, Melania Trump acknowledged the challenging moments faced by these mothers, noting the solitude and worry they endure in the quiet hours of the night.

“We must also think of those mothers whose spouses are overseas,” she added, “hoping and praying for their safe return so their families can be whole again.”

The audience of military mothers responded with laughter as President Trump smiled and gestured towards them, while the First Lady highlighted his empathetic nature.

“Many see my husband as a strong Commander in Chief,” Melania remarked, “yet his empathy extends beyond his duties, shaping him into a leader who always remembers that every American soldier is someone’s child.”

The president recognized military mothers during his remarks, pointing to their sacrifices as responsible for the entire nations.

‘There’s nothing more important than military moms, that I can tell you,’ he said. ‘Without you, I don’t think I would be in this house. I don’t think this house probably ever would have been built a long time ago.’

Melania praised military mothers who ‘find themselves alone, awake in their thoughts, in the darkest hours of the night’

The president also recognized his wife Melania as an ‘incredible mom’ to their son, Barron.

‘He’s a little boy to us, but he’s quite tall, right? And he’s great, Barron, and she takes great care of him,’ he added.

The President acknowledged that the war in Iran was still underway, even as both countries are clinging to a fragile ceasefire.

‘I call it a skirmish,’ he said about the ongoing conflict with Iran, adding it’s going ‘very smoothly’ and that their leaders were ready to negotiate a deal.

‘I think that military mothers would want to hear that,’ he added, prompting cheers from the audience.

Trump singled out military mothers in the audience including Melody Wolfe, the mother of National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, who survived a November 2025 shooting in Washington, DC while he was on patrol.

The President recalled that after Wolfe was shot, he was doubtful that he would survive, but that his mother’s faith never wavered.

‘She was right,’ Trump said. ‘It was sort of a miracle actually.’

Melody Wolfe thanked the President and the entire nation for their support.

‘We have a strong faith in God and God is what brought our son through this,’ she said.

She said her son came home a month ago.

‘He’s now enjoying being home, he’s getting back into playing golf. He loves cornhole as you know,’ she said.

Wolfe’s full recovery, she admitted, would take time, and that he was awaiting another surgery in September.

‘I have no doubt that he will be 100 percent, back to Andrew, within a few years,’ she said.

Trump continues to press for the Iranian leaders to agree to a peace deal, warning of dire consequences if they do not come to an agreement.

Earlier Wednesday morning, news of a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding being negotiated between senior Iranian officials and Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner emerged, inspiring optimism of a peace negotiation.

Trump signaled hope for an agreement on social media, promising to end Operation Epic Fury and allowing the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened if a deal was reached.

But he also warned of serious consequences if they failed to negotiate.

‘If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before,’ he wrote.
