JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A substantial police presence has been reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at the bustling junction of San Pablo Road and Atlantic Boulevard, urging the public to steer clear of the vicinity.
According to JSO officials, the situation involves an armed individual who has barricaded himself behind the Walmart located at 1650 San Pablo Road. While they assure there is no immediate danger to the public, traffic flow is affected as access to the intersection is restricted to police and emergency vehicles.
In an effort to ensure safety, shoppers in nearby stores are being asked to remain inside. Authorities have mobilized “significant” resources to manage the situation and are working towards a peaceful resolution.
Nearby educational institutions, River City Science Academy and Alimacani Elementary, have been placed under lockout conditions, which means no entry or exit is permitted, though officials confirm there is no threat to students or staff.
To alleviate traffic congestion, the school district has permitted early dismissal at Alimacani Elementary. They advise parents to follow specific instructions when picking up their children.
