Manhunt for retired special forces soldier accused of shooting wife enters 5th day in Tennessee

Craig Berry, a former special forces operative, was found dead in northern Tennessee after a six-day search. The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office reported that he appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, following accusations of shooting his wife.

“Today, our SWAT team, in conjunction with TBI agents, discovered the body of Craig Berry, the subject of our search. Preliminary evidence suggests he died by his own hand,” announced the sheriff’s office via social media.

The U.S. Marshals Service also confirmed Berry’s death, assuring the public that he is “no longer a threat.”

Officials have not disclosed the specific location where Berry’s body was found or how long he had been deceased.

Berry, aged 53, was charged with shooting his wife during a domestic altercation in the early hours of May 1. He subsequently escaped into nearby woods, triggering an extensive manhunt.

His wife was taken to the hospital after the incident, though her current condition as of Wednesday remains unknown.

Stewart County is located along the border with Kentucky, some 75 miles northeast of Nashville.
