Hugh Jackman's $40m move to cut ties with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness

Before Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster made headlines with their joint appearance at the Met Gala, the Australian actor took significant steps to distance himself from his past with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness. This move was marked by a discreet yet decisive action concerning one of their shared properties.

In the weeks leading up to the Met Gala, Jackman, at 57, quietly put one of the homes he and Furness once shared back on the real estate market. This decision came as part of the ongoing efforts to divide their shared assets, following the finalization of their divorce in June 2025.

A notable property in their portfolio, a luxurious apartment in New York, was relisted on March 31, just a month before Jackman and Foster graced the Met Gala red carpet together. This move underscores the duo’s commitment to moving forward separately.

Initially offered at a staggering AUD$57.5 million (US$38.9 million) in 2022, Jackman has since reduced the asking price by AUD$16 million. The property, located in Manhattan’s prestigious West Village, now seeks a buyer for AUD$41.5 million (US$28.75 million).

Originally hitting the market for an eye-watering AUD$57.5million (US$38.9m) in 2022, Hugh slashed the price by AUD$16m.

Located in Manhattan’s upscale West Village, the five-bedroom, six-bathroom pad has a new price tag of AUD$41.5m (US$28,750,000).

Before Hugh Jackman solidified his relationship with Sutton Foster (right) with their Met Gala debut this week, the Aussie star made one huge move to sever ties with his ex wife Deborra-Lee Furness

Just weeks before Jackman and Foster’s big Met Gala moment, the Wolverine actor, 57, quietly relisted one of the marital homes he shared with Furness

According to property records, Jackman and Furness, 70, still own the property, which they snapped up in 2008 for US$21.1m (AUD$29.1m).

The former couple later moved into a smaller property in nearby Chelsea.

Covering the 8th, 9th and 10th floors of a 15-storey high-rise, the apartment spans 1,021 square metres and offers stunning views of the Hudson River and the famous Manhattan skyline.

The 10th floor hosts a luxurious main bedroom suite and features a studio, spa bath, sauna and dressing rooms.

Meanwhile, the other two levels of the enormous property feature living spaces, a library, and a guest bedroom.

Other highlights include floor-to-ceiling windows, a recreation room and a professional gourmet kitchen.

Amenities in the sought-after block include a fitness centre, full-time doorman and concierge.

It is understood that the sale of the property was part of the Jackman-Furness divorce settlement.

Is it fair for Hugh Jackman to debut his new relationship so soon after splitting with Deborra-Lee Furness?

While Jackman and Furness finalised their divorce in June 2025, they are still in the process of splitting up their shared assets. And one of those assets is a stunning New York apartment, which was put back on the market on 31 March – just one month before Jackman and Foster walked the Met Gala red carpet

Furness reportedly bought out Jackman’s stake in their other luxury New York abode – an AUD$35m (US$24m) three-bedroom Manhattan penthouse.

The property, which the couple purchased together back in 2022 for AUD$31.6m (US$21.12m), had not been listed for sale but underwent a property transfer.

The once high-profile couple, who married in 1996, announced their separation in 2023 after 27 years of marriage.

Meanwhile, Jackman and Foster, who made their romance official in January 2025, looked totally smitten as they arrived at the Met Gala, with the couple often caught sharing loving glances during their red carpet appearance.

Jackman towered over Foster in a black tuxedo with a stylish velvet jacket and shiny dress shoes.

He had a clean-shaven face and his short brunette hair was pushed back with gel.

Foster was the picture of elegance in a glittering gold one-shoulder gown with a matching jewelled clutch.

Their public appearance did not go without criticism, with fans taking aim at Jackman for his choice of Met Gala date.

Social media users were quick to slam Hugh’s move as ‘disrespectful’ and ‘classless’.

‘Thumbs down! It’s forever team Debbie over here!!’ one person sniped.

‘Poor Deborra,’ a second added, as another chimed in with: ‘Not a fan.’

‘I lost big respect for him,’ someone else wrote, while yet another sniped: ‘Yes, pathetic.’

Jackman and his ex-wife previously attended multiple Met Galas, with their last joint appearance in 2023.

The actor notably showed up to the 2024 soirée solo and skipped the event altogether last year amid their high-profile split.
