Skokie news: Video shows thieves break into liquor store on Dempster Street in Skokie, crash into police squad car, officials say

In the early hours of Thursday morning, an audacious theft unfolded in the north suburbs of Skokie, Illinois, when a group of thieves targeted a local liquor store. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, took place around 3:30 a.m. on the 3500 block of Dempster Street, according to police reports.

The burglars, undeterred by the hour, shattered the store’s front door glass to gain entry. Once inside, they helped themselves to a variety of liquor bottles. The store owner disclosed to ABC7 that the thieves made off with approximately $10,000 worth of liquor, alongside $100 in coins which they seized from the register.

The swift-moving culprits were seen fleeing the scene in a white vehicle just as law enforcement arrived. The dramatic escape was further intensified by footage showing their car colliding with a police squad car during their getaway.

Authorities managed to apprehend three out of the five suspects involved, which included two juveniles and one adult. However, two suspects managed to evade capture and are believed to have escaped the immediate vicinity.

Further investigation revealed that the white getaway car had been stolen from Chicago. In addition, a stolen firearm was also recovered, adding another layer of seriousness to the crime.
