Nintendo is raising Switch 2 prices

Nintendo has announced a worldwide price increase for its Switch 2 console, citing “changes in market conditions” as the driving force. This adjustment is set to take effect on September 1st, with the console’s price in the United States rising from $449.99 to $499.99.

In Canada, gamers will see a $50 increase, bringing the cost to $679.99, up from $629.99. Meanwhile, European customers will face a €40 hike, adjusting the price to €499.99, approximately $587. The changes roll out earlier in Japan, beginning on May 25th, with the Switch 2 jumping from ¥49,980, around $318, to ¥59,980, approximately $382. Similar price adjustments will apply to the original Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite models.

Japanese consumers will also experience price increases on Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions and playing cards starting May 25th. In a statement accompanying its financial report, Nintendo explained that these price adjustments are necessary because “the impact of various changes in market conditions is expected to extend over the medium to long term.”

“We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding,” Nintendo expressed in their announcement.

In its recent financial disclosure, Nintendo revealed it sold 19.86 million units of the Switch 2 in fiscal year 2026, surpassing the original Switch’s sales of 15.05 million units during its first full fiscal year. The company noted that sales for the Switch 2 were “more concentrated in the launch year” compared to previous systems, leading to expectations of reduced sales in its second year.

Looking ahead, Nintendo projects sales of 16.5 million Switch 2 units in fiscal year 2027. The company also anticipates a revenue impact of approximately ¥100.0 billion due to “rising component prices, particularly for memory, and tariff measures.”
