Asus has introduced a compact addition to its line of gaming monitors. Unveiled last Friday, the ROG Strix XG129C is a 12.3-inch touchscreen IPS display designed to complement a larger primary monitor. This concept echoes the secondary 14.1-inch display found in the 2020 Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15. With its 720p resolution, it presents a slightly smaller alternative to Corsair’s Xeneon Edge, which features a 14.5-inch screen.
The XG129C boasts impressive color capabilities, covering 125% of the sRGB and 90% of the DCI-P3 color gamuts. A standout feature is its inclusion of a one-year subscription to AIDA64 Extreme, a hardware monitoring tool that typically costs $65. These sidekick displays are invaluable for tasks like performance monitoring, and they can serve as useful extensions for streaming or video editing setups, similar to Elgato’s Stream Deck.
In addition to the compact XG129C, Asus also revealed the ROG Strix OLED XG34WCDMS, a larger 34-inch RGB Tandem QD-OLED gaming monitor. This model is equipped with a 280Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 3440 x 1440p, offering 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, as per Asus’s claims. Pricing details for both new displays are yet to be disclosed by the company.
