In Syracuse, two police officers were reportedly injured by gunfire from an individual armed with a shotgun who had barricaded himself inside an apartment following a violent attack on a dog with a machete.
Local station WSYR-TV, citing police sources, reported that the suspect, whose identity has not been released, remains inside an apartment complex in downtown Syracuse.
The incident is ongoing, with authorities actively engaged at the scene.
According to the news outlet, the two wounded officers were transported to Upstate Medical University Hospital and are currently in stable condition.
A third officer, who sustained injuries unrelated to gunfire, was also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The police had initially responded to reports of a man threatening people and attacking a dog with a machete shortly after midday.
