Long Island cops fatally shoot son accused of stabbing disabled mom on Mother's Day

In a tragic incident on Mother’s Day, police officers shot and killed a man who was violently attacking his disabled mother with a knife at their Long Island home, as reported by authorities and sources familiar with the case.

Officers from Southampton responded to a call about a “worsening domestic situation” at a house on Topping Drive in Riverhead around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, according to information from the Suffolk County Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the son in the act of stabbing his mother, according to sources present at the scene.

Officers from the Southampton Town Police Department shot the man after he refused to drop the weapon, leading to his death, sources and police confirmed.

The mother, who endured multiple stab wounds during the terrifying ordeal, was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains in serious condition, according to both sources and police.

Confined to a wheelchair, the mother had been described by neighbors as a reserved individual who had endured years of domestic violence. She is the mother of triplet sons, with reports from WABC indicating that at least two of them struggle with mental health issues.

The woman, who was not identified, made at least one 911 call on Sunday, stating she had become afraid of her son, sources added.

Three Southampton police officers were also taken to a local hospital and treated for unknown injuries. They have since been released, according to authorities.

Detectives from the New York State Attorney General’s Office responded to the scene, cops said.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

The Southampton Police Department did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
