ORLANDO, Fla. – In today’s segment of Trooper Steve on Patrol, I had the chance to spend time with an organization that many of us know but perhaps don’t consider enough throughout the year—The Salvation Army.

For most, The Salvation Army is synonymous with the iconic red kettles seen during the holiday season or their vital role in disaster relief following hurricanes. However, in Central Florida, their mission is a year-round commitment. Every day, they provide crucial support to families, offering food, shelter, and stability during some of their most challenging times.

This week, I visited their Central Florida headquarters and spoke with Area Commander Major Roger Glick about the increasing challenges faced by our community. Major Glick shared that the demand for their services is on the rise.

With housing costs soaring, food insecurity growing, and many families struggling to make ends meet, more people are relying on organizations like The Salvation Army for assistance. The pressing issue is that the need is outpacing the available resources.

In response, The Salvation Army is organizing special events this week to raise awareness and encourage community involvement. Whether through volunteering or donations, they hope that residents of Central Florida will rally to support the ongoing efforts that quietly transform lives each day.

What struck me most during our discussion was the profound impact of small acts of kindness. Whether it’s a hot meal, temporary shelter, or simply a compassionate ear, these gestures can significantly alter someone’s path.

Here in Central Florida, we’re fortunate to have organizations willing to do that work day in and day out, even when nobody’s watching.

I hope you’ll join me on Trooper Steve on Patrol as we take a closer look at how The Salvation Army is helping our neighbors and how all of us can play a small role in making a big difference.
