Illegal aliens accused in Dallas killing of teen mother's unborn baby charged with capital murder

In Dallas, two individuals living illegally in the United States are now facing capital murder charges following an incident where a pregnant 17-year-old girl was shot and her unborn child subsequently died, as reported by local authorities.

The suspects, Yeremy Alexander Zapata Aleman, 17, from Honduras, and Keyner Ariel Calero Jiron, 20, from Nicaragua, both crossed the U.S. border without authorization, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They are accused of murder after an argument in a 7-Eleven parking lot escalated into a drive-by shooting, followed by a police pursuit, as detailed by KDFW.

The tragic event took place on May 3, at approximately 12:40 a.m.

The pregnant teen was a passenger in a vehicle with another individual who had a confrontation with Zapata Aleman and Calero Jiron at the 7-Eleven. Afterward, the victims left the premises, but the suspects allegedly pursued them.

Calero Jiron was reportedly behind the wheel during the shooting, which struck the young woman and fatally injured her unborn child. Another vehicle was hit by the gunfire as well, though its driver remained unharmed.

Police later located Calero Jiron’s vehicle and say he led them on a pursuit, eventually crashing.

Authorities say they found cocaine and MDMA in the vehicle along with illegal weapons.

When the victim, who was 22 weeks pregnant, told police she was carrying a child, she was taken to nearby Baylor Hospital where a cesarean section was performed. The baby did not survive.

If convicted on the capital murder charges, both Zapata Aleman and Calero Jiron could face the death penalty.

Along with the murder charge, Calero Jiron faces five counts of felony aggravated assault, one count of possession of cocaine and one count of unlawfully carrying a weapon.
