In a troubling development from Aurora, Illinois, a former member of a local school board is now facing serious accusations of sexual abuse, as confirmed by authorities on Friday. This situation has cast a shadow over the community and is currently under thorough investigation by the Aurora Police Department.
Aurora Christian Schools has swiftly responded to the allegations by removing 55-year-old Michael Robert Herbert from its board. The charges against Herbert are grave, involving long-term sexual abuse of minors, according to statements released by the school and police.

The investigation began in December 2025 when a man in his 20s came forward with allegations that he was subjected to child sexual abuse starting in his early teenage years. The claims have prompted a rigorous inquiry by the police into Herbert’s conduct over the years.
As detectives delved deeper, they uncovered a pattern of alleged abuse where Herbert reportedly exploited a position of trust to groom and manipulate the victim over several years. The police report suggests that Herbert used gifts, money, and other forms of persuasion as part of this manipulation, a tactic that paints a disturbing picture of the abuse.
Furthermore, detectives have unearthed evidence suggesting that Herbert’s inappropriate interactions may have extended to other young boys, broadening the scope of the investigation.
Herbert now faces multiple charges, including one count of Involuntary Sexual Servitude of a Minor Under 17, and several counts of Criminal Sexual Assault, particularly involving a supervisory role with victims aged between 13 and 17. Additional charges include Involuntary Sexual Servitude of a Minor aged 17-18, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse with a significant age difference, and possession of child sexual abuse material via a computer.
Herbert was taken to the Kane County Adult Justice Center for a detention hearing on Friday.
“The allegations brought to our attention over the last 24 hours are deeply disturbing. Mike Herbert no longer serves on the Aurora Christian Schools Board. We take this matter seriously and will continue to cooperate with the Aurora Police Department in its investigation. We work tirelessly to provide a safe and supportive environment for students, and remain committed to responding to this matter with the seriousness, care, and urgency required,” Aurora Christian Schools said in a statement.
