Several suspects are still on the run after pelting rocks at a bus on the Gold Coast, causing it to crash into a tree.

Late last night, a passenger bus with a driver and five passengers was targeted by several individuals on e-bikes who hurled rocks at the vehicle on Teemangum Street in Currumbin. The incident occurred just before 11:30 p.m.

The assault caused the driver to lose control, sending the bus off the road and resulting in a collision with a tree. Fortunately, none of the passengers sustained injuries, although the female driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The bus company expressed outrage over the violent act, emphasizing that drivers should not have to endure such abuse.

Police are investigating the incident and are still searching for the people involved.

“This was an extremely distressing situation for both the bus driver and the passengers involved,” stated Tom Kinsey, Kinetic’s executive general manager for south-east Queensland. “We are in touch with those affected to provide our support.”

Kinsey added, “Assaults on our drivers and passengers are utterly unacceptable. We firmly denounce any actions that jeopardize the safety of our drivers, the passengers on board, and the wider community.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to come forward.
