Fans of both the Chicago White Sox and the Cubs flocked to Rate Field for all three games of the Crosstown Classic, as temperatures soared into the 80s, intensifying the spirited rivalry.

Meanwhile, the lively atmosphere extended beyond the ballpark to May Fest in Lincoln Park, where music and warm weather marked the unofficial start of summer on Saturday and Sunday.

“If you come in having a bad day, you’ll leave having the best day,” remarked Luke Mooney, a recent transplant from Ohio. “Look at these guys playing. They’re having such a good time. I’ve seen the same people sitting on their chairs, waiting for everything to happen. Everybody’s smiling.”

Bruno Mars took to the big stage at Soldier Field for the first of two nights of his sold out The Romantic Tour Saturday night. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for his second concert Sunday.

“We just had to do the red for the album cover, then I had to find gold jewelry, and I had to ask my parents for their jewelry,” Bruno Mars fan Almae Uy said.

Fans bathed in the Chicago Lakefront weather, bringing their own 24-karat magic.

“Wear something for good weather, like, prepare for it,” 13-year-old Bruno Mars fan Jayden Dedeaux said. “And, I would say, if you’re not coming here, where are you at? What are you doing?”
