In a grim turn of events, the man now facing charges in the murder of an American Idol music supervisor and her spouse has been linked to a history of violence, according to information obtained by DailyMail.com. Twenty-two-year-old Raymond Boodarian was taken into custody at his home in Reseda, just a day after the tragic discovery of Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca’s bodies in their lavish Los Angeles residence.
The police report suggests that Boodarian, unfamiliar with the victims, unlawfully entered the couple’s $5 million estate with intentions to commit burglary. However, his plans took a deadly turn when Kaye and Deluca unexpectedly returned home, leading to their fatal shooting. Neighbors, still reeling from the shock, have begun to share their unsettling encounters with Boodarian and the dramatic moments of his arrest by armed officers.
One neighbor, choosing to remain anonymous, recalled Boodarian’s frequent, aimless wanderings around the complex, often appearing visibly agitated. Her encounters with him were limited as she preferred to keep her distance due to his unpredictable behavior. The same neighbor described the eerie nights when she could see his bedroom lights through their shared wall, recounting episodes where he seemed on the verge of breaking through into her apartment. “The police have been here before,” she mentioned, adding that Boodarian’s mother had previously sought help, unable to manage her son’s behavior. In one disturbing incident, the neighbor alleged that Boodarian had caused physical harm to his mother, breaking several of her ribs.
Boodarian’s arrest became the talk of the complex on Tuesday afternoon. Another neighbor arrived at the woman’s house brandishing footage from her CCTV camera. ‘I saw on my ring camera police were here, all right.. With like, shotguns drawn and all this, and I said, “Wow.”‘ The woman said Boodarian, his mother and his sister moved into the complex ‘before the pandemic.’ She described Boodarian’s mom Sadjbibi and sister as friendly women she has had a handful of pleasant interactions with. ‘She works. We kind of wave at each other, we go in and out of the garages. We had one conversation a long time ago. She’s been trying to get him help for years.’
The ex-boyfriend of Boodarian’s mom, Uber driver Adin Mozafari, was horrified to learn of the allegations. ‘I’m so very sorry! Oh my God, Oh my God! I can’t believe it,’ the Uber driver said, his voice cracking. Mozafari shares an 18-year-old daughter with Boodarian’s mom. He said he spoke to Sadjbibi just four days ago and ‘everything seemed fine.’ ‘When I asked her (Sadjbibi) how was everyone, she said everyone was fine.’ His daughter had just graduated high school, but her half-brother Boodarian didn’t attend. He said the 22-year-old doesn’t have a job and ‘mostly made trouble.’
Mozafari said when he left the relationship, Boodarian was young, but he said the 22-year old was often fighting with his mother and her current boyfriend. ‘I believe there was some trouble at the home between him and his mother and her boyfriend. The police have to sometimes come over there.’ Police do not believe Boodarian was working with a syndicate or in any kind of structured burglary group. Instead, they allege he was working alone when he broke into the Los Angeles home on Thursday night. Boodarian had already been inside the couple’s home for about 30 minutes on July 10 when they unexpectedly arrived home.
CCTV footage allegedly shows Boodarian entering the home in an attempted burglary. He did not force entry, and instead found an open way to get inside. He allegedly shot them both dead during a struggle when they caught him in the act. Two calls were made to the LAPD about a possible burglary on the day of the couple’s deaths, but when officers responded they were unable to get inside because the home is ‘highly fortified’, ABC7 reported. They saw no visible signs of forced entry and a helicopter which flew overhead did not alert officers to any dangers, so they left the scene. They returned to the six-bedroom four days later at 2.30pm following a call for a welfare check, shattering a back window to gain access to the home.
When they entered, they discovered Kaye and Deluca (pictured together) both shot in the head. According to neighbors of Kaye and Deluca, a person, who may have been armed, was spotted hopping a fence in the ritzy California neighborhood. Neighbor Naomi Sadoun, 69, would often see them walking together along the tree-lined streets, sometimes with their dog, and described the couple as ‘lovely people.’ She said the couple’s worried family members showed up outside the Encino home on White Oak Avenue yesterday evening but were kept back by police.
Sadoun told DailyMail.com: ‘They were very nice – lovely people. Robin (pictured center) was always friendly to me. She told me she was from Brooklyn and was also working on commercials these days. Thomas was handsome with blue eyes. It’s terrible what has happened to them. They didn’t deserve this.’ After hearing of the tragic deaths, American Idol issued a statement, calling Kaye ‘a cornerstone of the Idol family.’
‘We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing,’ a spokesperson told Daily Mail. ‘Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.’ Kaye worked as the music supervisor for singing competition American Idol for the last 15 seasons, or nearly 300 episodes, per her IMDB page. ‘Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.’
Over the years, she won several Guild of Music Supervisors Awards for her work on the show. She also worked for other well-known shows, including Lip Sync Battle, Hollywood Game Night, and Worn Stories. Her husband was a musician who last released an album called Street Rock in 2022. His first ‘acclaimed cult favorite debut’ album. ‘Down To The Wire,’ was released by Epic Records in 1986, Deluca’s website detailed. Deluca penned songs for popular hit makers, including Kid Rock, the band Molly Hatchet and Meredith Brooks.
The couple purchased the home in January 2023, according to public records. It was previously owned by late rapper Juice WRLD who died in 2019 from an overdose, neighbors told KTLA.
