During the latest episode of WWE Raw, Brock Lesnar made a surprise return, ambushing Oba Femi just as he was gearing up for his much-anticipated Oba Femi Open Challenge. The previous week saw Oba Femi struggling to find contenders, ultimately dragging Angel and Berto (from Los Garzas) into the ring himself. With challengers seemingly in short supply, doubts arose about whether anyone would step up this week. Those doubts were put to rest in dramatic fashion when Lesnar blindsided Oba during his entrance, marking the biggest challenge of Oba’s career to date.
Lesnar’s assault was ruthless, delivering four F5s to Oba, signaling a forceful comeback after rumors suggested his retirement. WWE Raw General Manager Adam Pearce had even filed Lesnar’s (fictional) retirement paperwork. However, Paul Heyman intervened, presenting Pearce with a signed contract for a high-stakes rematch at Clash in Italy.
While some fans speculated about Lesnar’s retirement, especially with Gunther making a name for himself in retirement matches, Lesnar is clearly back in action. He is set to face Oba Femi again in a singles match, following their thrilling encounter that kicked off WrestleMania 42 on ESPN. Despite Oba’s swift victory over Lesnar, many seasoned wrestling enthusiasts were deceived when Lesnar signaled the infamous “X” sign.
As the rivalry between Lesnar and Femi continues, it also sets the stage for what could be Lesnar’s genuine retirement match, speculated to occur at WWE SummerSlam in his hometown of Minnesota. Gunther is widely considered a top contender for this match. Although Heyman claims he leveraged a favor with Gunther to secure him a title match against WWE champion Cody Rhodes, Gunther himself has yet to confirm this arrangement.
Though Lesnar and Femi’s feud is set to continue, this also opens the door for Lesnar’s actual retirement match, which is likely to happen at WWE SummerSlam in Brock’s hometown of Minnesota. Gunther remains the favorite for that spot. Heyman already insisted he cashed in on his favor to Gunther after getting him a match against WWE champion Cody Rhodes, but Gunther has yet to confirm this himself.
