GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities apprehended 33-year-old Bacarius A’kenshay Dinkins on charges related to an alleged break-in at his former partner’s home last April. The incident reportedly left approximately $1,000 in damages and involved the theft of her medical marijuana.

According to reports from the Gainesville Police Department, around 1:00 p.m. on April 19, the victim was informed by her coworkers that Dinkins had contacted her workplace to confirm her absence. Upon reaching out to Dinkins, he allegedly confessed to breaking into her home by kicking in the door. Inside, he reportedly caused damage to several items, including ceiling fans, lights, a wall, and the front door frame, and admitted to taking her belongings.

The police officer who attended the scene documented the extensive damage throughout the residence, estimating the cost at approximately $1,000.

The victim also reported that her medical marijuana, which she valued at $40, had been taken.

She further explained that although Dinkins had previously lived in the home, he was legally barred from the property following their separation.

The officer spoke with Dinkins by phone, and Dinkins reportedly admitted going to the victim’s home that morning, but he said he did not go inside. He said he knew he was trespassed from the victim’s residence and that he should not have been there; he also reportedly admitted that he had called the victim while at her residence.

Dinkins has been charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft from a dwelling, and misdemeanor property damage. He has no criminal history, and Judge Joy Danne ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
