Tragedy struck a Sydney neighborhood as a man succumbed to his injuries and four others were left in critical condition following a shooting incident inside a home.

Authorities have cordoned off the residence in Canley Heights, located in Sydney’s southwest, after the wounded individuals independently sought medical help at nearby hospitals on Tuesday evening. Around 8:30 PM AEST, a 28-year-old and a 32-year-old reached Liverpool Hospital, both bearing multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite medical efforts, the 28-year-old tragically passed away due to a gunshot wound. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old remains in the hospital, battling a serious neck injury, though his condition has stabilized.

Shortly thereafter, around 8:40 PM, two more victims, aged 23 and 22, arrived at Fairfield Hospital in serious condition. They were subsequently transferred to other facilities for advanced medical care.

The 23-year-old is receiving treatment for a neck gunshot wound, while the 22-year-old was injured in the shoulder.

Approximately an hour later, a fifth victim, a 19-year-old, made his way to Liverpool Hospital with an arm injury. His condition is reported as stable.

“Initial information indicates the men were all injured during a shooting at the home earlier in the night,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Officers were seen swarming around the hospitals’ emergency wards in the late hours of the night as an investigation into the incident was launched.

NSW Police commissioner Mal Lanyon told 2GB radio on Wednesday that the motive was unclear, but it appeared to be a “targeted attack” and suggested it could be related to organised crime.
