Bungie gives up on Destiny

Bungie is preparing to close the chapter on Destiny 2. The game developer revealed on Thursday that it will roll out the final significant update on June 9th, marking a shift in its focus towards fresh ventures. Post-update, Destiny 2 will continue to be accessible, akin to its predecessor, Destiny. Bungie emphasizes that the upcoming changes are designed to make Destiny 2 a welcoming space for returning players.

The announcement provides extensive details about what players can expect in this concluding update, with further insights promised as the release date approaches. However, following this, Bungie’s regular blog updates will enter a period of dormancy. The studio assures fans that any future developments regarding Destiny will be promptly communicated. Bungie initially launched Destiny in 2014, followed by Destiny 2 in 2017, marking a significant venture after its Halo series.

Despite moving away from Destiny 2, Bungie remains active in the live-service arena. Earlier this year, the company introduced the extraction shooter Marathon, which, while not reaching the same heights as Destiny 2 at its peak, has been positively received. The studio’s next project promises to be a departure from the Destiny universe. Bungie acknowledges that venturing into the unknown can be daunting but also exhilarating. They express a steadfast commitment to creating games that both they and their audience are eager to play.
