'No one is above the law': Ware County Jail detention officer accused of battery against inmate

A detention officer from the Ware County Jail has found herself on the other side of the law following allegations of an assault on an inmate. The Ware County Sheriff’s Office disclosed the arrest on Friday, marking a significant development in the case that has raised both internal and public concerns.

Shacondra Ashley Minor, who had been serving at the jail for approximately three years, was involved in a contentious incident on the evening of April 20. The altercation reportedly took place between her and a female inmate, prompting an immediate review by the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Carl James, after examining the details of the encounter, expressed that the force used by Minor appeared to contravene both jail policy and the state law. This prompted an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which ultimately led to an arrest warrant being issued against the officer.

On May 22, Minor was apprehended and charged with several offenses, including cruelty to an inmate, violation of oath by a public officer, and simple battery. These charges underscore the severity of the alleged misconduct and the legal repercussions that followed.

Emphasizing the importance of integrity within the force, Sheriff James remarked, “The trust of our community is sacred, and we will hold our personnel to the highest standard.” He further emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency and accountability, affirming that the arrest exemplifies their dedication to ensuring that justice prevails and that no one is above the law.

“The trust of our community is sacred, and we will hold our personnel to the highest standard,” the sheriff said. “This arrest shows our dedication to maintain that standard and to display transparency and accountability—showing that no one is above the law.”

According to the agency, Minor had been employed at the Ware County Jail for a little over three years.
