Republican gubernatorial contender Bruce Blakeman has secured a significant endorsement from Puerto Rico’s Governor, Jennifer González-Colón, during a strategic meeting earlier this week that also included cryptocurrency entrepreneur Brock Pierce.
At the meeting, González-Colón expressed her support for Blakeman, who currently serves as the Nassau County Executive. They discussed potential strategies for economic growth, boosting tourism, enhancing public safety, and increasing Republican engagement with Hispanic communities in New York City, according to Blakeman’s campaign team.
“This endorsement is timely as Republicans are increasingly gaining traction among Latino voters across the country, especially among working-class families, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and younger Hispanic voters who are prioritizing economic issues, public safety, inflation, and quality of life,” stated Blakeman’s campaign in a press release.
New York State is home to over a million Puerto Ricans, with approximately 70% residing in New York City’s five boroughs. This demographic represents a crucial voting bloc for Blakeman as he aims to narrow the significant polling gap between himself and incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul.
Former “Mighty Ducks” actor and cryptocurrency magnate Brock Pierce was also present at the meeting. The Blakeman campaign revealed that Pierce has personally contributed $143,000 to political efforts related to Blakeman.
Pierce has pledged to assist in raising up to $40 million for Republican initiatives associated with Blakeman and other organizations, according to the campaign.
“I am not enthusiastic about how the races turned out, and the next race to save the capital of the world is the governor races,” Pierce told The Post Monday, referencing his prior support of former Mayor Eric Adams’ failed bid for re-election.
“Look at what (Blakeman’s) done with Nassau County and his record there shows he can do that in the rest of the state,” he said.
