Man tried to abort baby due to family's disapproval: Cops

Abdullah Mohmand (Barren County Detention Center).

A man from Kentucky has been charged with allegedly attempting to harm his unborn child by secretly replacing his pregnant girlfriend’s prescribed medication with abortion pills.

Abdullah Mohmand, 26, from Bowling Green, reportedly informed his girlfriend that his family in Afghanistan would not accept him having a child with her. This information comes from court documents which were reviewed by local Fox affiliate, WDKY.

The documents reveal that Mohmand allegedly told his girlfriend, “They could not have a baby because his family would kill him,” highlighting the pressure he claimed to be under from his family, according to statements made to the police by the victim.

The girlfriend reported to authorities on Monday that Mohmand had swapped her medication with an “unknown medication,” raising serious concerns for her and the unborn child’s safety.

“At approximately 7:30 a.m., the Kentucky State Police received a report from a woman in Glasgow claiming that her boyfriend, Abdullah Mohmand, had replaced her prescribed medication with an unknown substance,” detailed a KSP press release. The woman, who is pregnant, expressed fears for her unborn child’s well-being. Following this report, authorities obtained a search warrant for Mohmand’s residence.

During the search, police discovered misoprostol, a drug known for its ability to induce labor or terminate pregnancies. Investigators confirmed that Mohmand had used this medication in an attempt to harm the couple’s unborn child, as stated in the KSP release.

Mohmand claimed he had “no knowledge” of the suspicious pills found after his pregnant girlfriend realized her prescribed medication had been replaced with an unknown substance, according to court documents. The victim said she called the police because she didn’t know what the substance was.

“[The misoprostol] was found to match the unknown medication that was located at the female’s residence,” the KSP release says.

Mohmand was arrested and charged with attempted fetal homicide. He was booked in the Barren County Jail without bond and is due to appear in court for an arraignment on June 25, according to online records.
