The X-Men are making a triumphant return this summer, embarking on a journey through time to confront some of their most formidable challenges yet. The much-anticipated second season of “X-Men ’97” is set to premiere on Disney+ on July 1, and Marvel Animation has just unveiled the official trailer, leaving fans eager for what’s to come.
This new season plunges the iconic team of mutants into a thrilling narrative where they find themselves scattered across the ancient past, present, and a far-off future. As they endeavor to reunite and return home, the 1990s timeline sees a surge of emerging mutants stepping into the void left by the team’s absence.
Familiar voices will grace the series once more, with Jennifer Hale returning as Jean Grey, Cal Dodd as the indomitable Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and Ross Marquand as the formidable Apocalypse. Their return promises to deliver the nostalgic yet fresh experience fans have come to love.
Following the dramatic events of Season 1, the trailer gives a glimpse of what lies ahead, prominently featuring the powerful mutant supervillain, Apocalypse. It sets the stage for an epic confrontation that will test the X-Men like never before.
The trailer opens with a poignant scene featuring Rogue and Nightcrawler. Rogue’s reflective words, “It’s hard to believe what’s not waitin’ for me,” hint at personal loss and longing. This is underscored by the poignant moment when Rogue is shown reminiscing about Gambit, a significant character she lost in the previous season.
The trailer opens on a somber note with Rogue sitting beside Nightcrawler. “It’s hard to believe what’s not waitin’ for me,” Rogue says. “Someone I lost, someone special.” The trailer then shows Rogue with Gambit, whom she lost in Season 1.
An unseen voiceover explains the stakes of their new fight, noting that the team is scattered “from the start of Apocalypse’s reign, to the future at the height of his rule.”
Apocalypse himself vows to crush the heroes, stating, “The X-Men… I must strike them at their most vulnerable. The 1990s.”
The mission to unite the team receives commentary from Lucas Bishop, who declares, “We got to get the X-Men back. To the ’90s.” Rogue later adds, “This isn’t just about us. It’s about everyone we’ve lost.”
The trailer balances these stakes with a high level of action, showcasing a montage of fight sequences, fire scenes, and time-travel before grounding itself once more in the team’s core mission.
“From the beginning of time, to the reaches of tomorrow…we stand together. Right here, right now.” Nightcrawler says. “I believe in the X-Men.”
“X-Men ’97” Season 2 is available to stream on Disney+ beginning July 1.
