A 47-year-old man is currently in stable condition at a hospital after neighbors found him injured, sparking concerns within the community about potential future incidents.
Late yesterday evening, the man, who resides in a unit adjacent to James Meehan Reserve in Dee Why on the Northern Beaches, approached a group hosting a loud gathering in the park. He requested that they reduce the volume of their music.
According to one bystander, the group was using a “boom box” that reached “really, really loud levels at one point.”
Another observer noted that the man had initially tried to communicate with the group from his balcony, shouting at them to lower the noise.
When he went down to make his request in person, police report that he was surrounded and assaulted, resulting in facial injuries that required hospitalization.
Inspector Vanessa Robinson of NSW Police mentioned, “He believes he was lying there for an hour, but we need to conduct a thorough investigation into that claim.”
Councillor Vincent De Luca hopes the perpetrators are found quickly.
“NSW Police need to get onto this pretty quick, our community expect arrests and expect justice,” he said.
“Locals are petrified to even take their dogs for a walk.
“We have an epidemic of gang crime and that must be addressed.”
Incidents where a group target an individual is not uncommon on the Northern Beaches.
Some locals spoken to by 9News said they were scared, but Inspector Robinson maintained it was safe to go to parks.
