WASHINGTON – The stage is set for a grand celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, aptly named “The Great American State Fair.” Yet, recent developments have added a political twist to the event, as several musical acts withdrew due to the fair’s ties with former President Donald Trump. Now, in a surprising turn, Trump himself is expected to headline the event, according to organizers’ announcement on Saturday.

On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump addressed the situation, noting that some artists seem to be experiencing performance anxiety, or “the yips,” as he put it. He mused about stepping in personally, referring to himself as “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP,” suggesting he could fill the void left by what he called “highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists.’”

The organization behind the fair, Freedom 250, confirmed Trump’s participation, expressing excitement about having him launch this historic event. “We are thrilled to announce that President Trump will personally kick off this celebration,” stated the group, which is orchestrating the fair on the National Mall in Washington come June.

Interestingly, Trump’s social media post inaccurately mentioned the event as occurring on a “Wednesday,” although the fair is scheduled to commence on June 25. As of now, the White House has not provided clarification regarding this inconsistency.

Danielle Alvarez, spokesperson for Freedom 250, highlighted that the fair is more than just a political event. Running through July 10, it promises a diverse lineup featuring exhibits, family-friendly attractions, musical performances, and flyovers, aiming to engage attendees of all ages.

While Freedom 250 promotes itself as nonpartisan, it was initiated by Trump last year and is currently led by a former State Department official from his first term. This connection has led to several artists, including Bret Michaels, the Commodores, and Martina McBride, opting to withdraw their participation as of last week.

Michaels and other artists have said that they were misled about the theme of the shows or were otherwise wary of being caught up in a political fight.

Other artists plan to attend, including Flo Rida, Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli and Vanilla Ice. The latter’s representative previously said that the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper was “proud to help celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary!”
