GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 33-year-old man, Robert Dillon Donaldson, faces charges after allegedly shattering a business’s glass door with his fist, which he had wrapped in a shirt.
In the early hours of May 29, around 2:52 a.m., an officer from the Gainesville Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at a shopping center located on the 1700 block of SW 13th Street. Upon arrival, Donaldson reportedly approached the officer and voluntarily admitted to causing the damage, estimated at $1,200.
According to the officer, surveillance footage captured Donaldson approaching the business’s entrance, wrapping his hand in a black shirt, and repeatedly striking the door until the glass gave way.
During the arrest and subsequent search, Donaldson allegedly disclosed possession of a “meth pipe,” which was then discovered in the pocket of an additional pair of pants he was wearing.
After being read his Miranda rights, Donaldson reportedly chose not to respond to any further questions.
Donaldson has been charged with felony property damage and possession of drug paraphernalia. His full criminal history is unavailable, but he is on probation out of Duval County for burglary and is listed as a fugitive on the Florida Department of Corrections website. Judge George Wright set bail at $15,000.
