An Iowa resident is believed to have tragically shot and killed six family members before committing suicide on Monday, officials reported.
Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies stated that officers responded to a shooting report at approximately 12:12 p.m. on Monday. The incident took place at a residence on Park Avenue in Muscatine, a city located about 50 miles southeast of Cedar Rapids.
Upon arrival, officers found four individuals inside the home with gunshot wounds. Sadly, all four were declared deceased at the scene, Kies stated in a press briefing.
The suspected shooter was quickly identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland from Muscatine. According to police, McFarland had fled the scene before authorities arrived.
