EUSTIS, Fla. – Authorities have apprehended and extradited a suspect to Lake County in connection with the 2025 murder of a woman from Eustis.
The victim, Monica Islam, was discovered deceased in Mount Dora on May 2, 2025, following a missing person report filed by her daughter.
According to Lake County sheriff’s detectives, Monica Islam was last seen leaving her workplace, a convenience store, with her brother-in-law, Shahidul Islam. Her body was subsequently located after her disappearance.
Shahidul Islam is believed to have escaped to New York shortly after Monica’s death. Investigators reported that a search of his vehicle revealed blood stains matching Monica Islam’s DNA.

Detectives, upon discovering an active federal immigration warrant for Shahidul, enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. He was apprehended on May 6.
Detectives believe an ongoing dispute over some property in their home country of Bangladesh was a motive in the killing. They learned there was an incident in 2024 where Monica Islam’s husband, Rashedul Islam, hit her and stole jewelry and property documents, while Shahidul, Rashedul’s brother, held a gun to her head and told her not to call 911.
Detectives say Rashedul has also allegedly fled the country and has not returned.
Shahidul Islam is facing charges of first-degree murder.
