Man 'died in his father's arms' after being stabbed: Police

A New York woman faces murder charges after being accused of fatally stabbing a friend in the neck, according to police reports.

News footage of Kristin Sculley (in white sweatshirt) being escorted from her arraignment on June 2 (WABC).

Kristin Sculley, 22, appeared in a Nassau County courtroom on Tuesday, charged with the murder of 28-year-old Robert Carragher. She entered a not guilty plea to second-degree murder. At a press briefing aired by local ABC station WABC, Nassau County Homicide Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo detailed that Carragher was in his basement bedroom with Sculley, a friend of many years, at his family home in Massapequa, New York. The pair had spent several hours together on the night of May 31.

Shortly after midnight, the evening took a tragic and violent turn.

Local news outlet Newsday reported that Deputy Homicide Bureau Chief Ania Pulaski stated Sculley allegedly produced a knife she had brought and stabbed Carragher in the neck, severing an artery. In a desperate attempt to seek aid, Carragher ran upstairs to alert his parents.

During the press conference, Darienzo recounted how Carragher, who had been lying in bed when the alleged attack occurred, managed to climb the stairs while calling out for his mother. He then collapsed in the kitchen, where his parents attempted to staunch the bleeding.

Darienzo said during the press conference that Carragher was lying in bed at the time of the alleged attack. He got up, “climbed the stairs screaming for his mother,” and collapsed in the kitchen of the home where his parents tried to stop the bleeding.

“He died in his father’s arms,” Darienzo said. Police arrived at the home around 1:30 a.m. A paramedic pronounced him dead at the scene.

While no motive for the alleged stabbing was made public, Sculley’s defense attorney told Newsday that self-defense could not be ruled out.

Police said Sculley was hiding in the Carraghers’ house when she was arrested. Officers found a pocketknife that they believed was the alleged murder weapon and belonged to Sculley.

Sculley is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.
