Have you seen this light? Beacon stolen from Wisconsin lighthouse

Shocking Theft: Iconic Wisconsin Lighthouse Beacon Stolen—Discover the Impact and Search Efforts

The recent theft of a lighthouse beacon in the Twin Ports has escalated concerns far beyond mere property damage, posing a significant threat to public safety, according to officials.

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The U.S. Coast Guard is currently on a mission to track down the individuals responsible for stealing a crucial lighthouse beacon, cautioning that this act could potentially result in disastrous vessel collisions.

The Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) has reported that the beacon was taken from inside the Superior Entry South Breakwater Light, located at the tip of Wisconsin Point.

The incident occurred on May 13, when suspects broke into the lighthouse, cut the power supply, and made off with the vital navigation aid.

Authorities emphasize that this incident goes beyond a mere case of theft, as it poses an immediate risk to public safety.

“Maritime aids to navigation are as essential as traffic lights and street signs on our roads,” stated CGIS officials in a press release. “The Superior Entry South Breakwater Light plays a critical role in ensuring vessels safely navigate in and out of the harbor, especially at night and during adverse weather conditions.”

They went on to say that removing this light “creates a severe hazard that could lead to catastrophic vessel collisions or grounding.”

Investigators say they are aggressively pursuing all leads and there is a $1,000 reward to anyone who offers information that leads to an arrest. Click here to submit a tip to CGIS.
