Cops release more details after horrific high school graduation shooting kills one, injures three others as young as 11

A tragic shooting near a high school in the Bay Area claimed the life of an 18-year-old and left three others injured on Wednesday, including a young child of just 11 years old.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the deceased individual was a student. The child and two other injured individuals, aged 20 and 25, were rushed to the hospital following the incident.

The shooting unfolded shortly after the commencement ceremony for Sem Yeto High School, which took place at Fairfield High School’s Schafer Stadium. Police have described the situation as a “large-scale incident,” highlighting its severity.

At around 8 p.m., Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez took to social media to report that three people had been shot. She also mentioned an active shooter situation at the stadium and noted that investigations were still underway.

“It’s a traumatizing experience for everyone here who witnessed it. It’s truly outrageous,” commented Fairfield Police Officer Michelle Belyea, expressing the shock and concern felt by the community.

“Kind of traumatized for everyone here who had to witness it. It’s outrageous,” Fairfield Police officer Michelle Belyea said.

“It’s sad. Prayers for everyone affected by it. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.”

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District confirmed that law enforcement officers responded to the campus following the incident.

“Law enforcement is on campus, and as this is an active investigation we have no additional information to share at this time,” a district spokesperson said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the individuals affected and as soon as we have more details we will share that with you.”

Footage from a livestream reviewed by KCRA 3 showed the graduation ceremony itself and did not appear to capture any gunfire during the event.

One attendee said the shooting broke out in the parking lot after the ceremony concluded, as families and graduates gathered to take photos.

Another witness, a father whose daughter attended to support a graduating friend, said he heard gunshots and immediately started running.

Investigators have not taken anyone into custody, but have deemed there is no threat to the community.

The California Post reached out to Fairfield police for further comment.
