In a powerful display of musical dominance, Drake recently took control of Billboard‘s R&B, hip-hop, and rap charts. The superstar released three full-length albums simultaneously—Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour—offering fans a wealth of new material. Predictably, as is often the case when an artist floods the charts, many of Drake’s tracks are beginning to slide. However, he remains firmly in command of several lists, with one track defying the trend.
“Shabang,” a standout hit from this prolific period, is capturing fans’ hearts and ascending the charts. In its second week, the song is defying expectations by climbing to new heights across multiple lists. While it is tantalizingly close to the top position on several charts, Drake himself prevents it from clinching the No. 1 spot.
This week, “Shabang” is making waves on nine Billboard charts, advancing on five of them to achieve new peaks. It now holds the No. 2 position on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs, and Rap Streaming Songs charts, while rising to No. 3 on the Streaming Songs list. Last week, it debuted at No. 4 across these rankings, and if not for another hit from Drake, it would have claimed the top spot.
Drake’s “Shabang” Rises to No. 2
The track “Janice STFU” from the Iceman album is the reason “Shabang” hasn’t reached No. 1. Released a few days ago, “Janice STFU” debuted at No. 1 on several Billboard charts and maintains its stronghold. It appears on an impressive 15 charts and remains at the summit on seven, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200, as well as the key hip-hop and rap lists.
Drake Blocks Himself from No. 1 With “Janice STFU”
While “Shabang” does not secure a No. 1 position on any of the charts where it holds the No. 2 spot, Drake’s track record of chart-topping hits remains unrivaled. On the Rap Streaming Songs chart, he has accumulated 24 No. 1 hits, 29 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, and 32 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.
Drake Already Claims Dozens of Leaders
Although Drake doesn’t replace himself at the top with “Shabang,” he does manage to switch his No. 2 position. Recently, “Ran to Atlanta,” a collaboration featuring Molly Santana and Future, narrowly missed the top spot, settling in behind “Janice STFU.” This week, “Ran to Atlanta” drops to third place, giving “Shabang” the opportunity to rise.
“Shabang” Replaces “Ran to Atlanta” at No. 2
Drake does not replace himself at No. 1 on any of the charts where “Shabang” currently resides in second place, but he does swap one No. 2 smash for another. Only days ago, “Ran to Atlanta,” a collaboration with both Molly Santana and Future, missed out on ruling as it came in behind “Janice STFU.” This time around, “Ran to Atlanta” slips to third place, making way for “Shabang” to climb.
Drake Owns the Top 10 on Several Billboard Charts
Drake dominates the entire top 10 on two of the four charts where “Shabang” nearly runs the show. He does not allow another artist to appear within that region on both the Hot Rap Songs and Rap Streaming Songs tallies, though he doesn’t quite manage that showing on the more all-encompassing lists.
Drake fills 70% of the slots within the top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs register, only one single not credited to Drake – Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” – ruins his winning streak. Last week, “Billie Jean” fell to No. 21, and now the former chart-topper is back at No. 7.
