LOS ANGELES — Ridley Scott’s latest film, “The Dog Stars,” plunges viewers into a post-apocalyptic world where characters are on a quest to rediscover remnants of their old lives.
The newly released trailer provides an intriguing glimpse into the desolate landscape where Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin’s characters strive to survive while facing numerous dangers in their pursuit of a life beyond mere existence.
In this devastated world, nearly devoid of life, Hig (played by Jacob Elordi) and Cima (portrayed by Margaret Qualley) reminisce about life before the apocalypse. Hig, alongside his faithful dog, transforms abandoned roads into makeshift runways for his yellow plane as they navigate the barren terrain.
“The world that was doesn’t exist,” declares Josh Brolin’s character, Bangley, encapsulating the dire reality they face.
Hig, Cima, and Bangley are members of a self-sustaining community that has managed to survive the apocalypse by living off the land. But when a mysterious radio signal reaches them, it ignites their curiosity and drives them to venture out in hopes of reclaiming pieces of the world they once knew.
However, their journey reveals a grim truth: the remaining human survivors have descended into a state of violent madness.
“There’s a new bunch in town,” Hig says. “They’re going after everything that’s left.”
The three will have to trust in each other’s skills and wits to try and see if there really is any humanity left in a world turned desperate and chaotic.
The film, based on the novel by Peter Heller, also stars Allison Janney, Benedict Wong and Guy Pearce.
“The Dog Stars” comes to theaters and IMAX August 28.
