An 18-year-old man from Wisconsin received a life sentence on Friday for his involvement in the horrific murder of a 5-year-old Milwaukee boy, a case that subsequently prompted modifications in state legislation.
Erik Mendoza, who was only 15 when the crime occurred, will be ineligible to seek parole for 50 years. In February, he admitted guilt to charges including first-degree intentional homicide, concealing a corpse, and three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment in connection with the death of Prince McCree, as reported by local news stations FOX 6 and WISN.
“In terms of the gravity of this defendant’s actions, it doesn’t become more severe or more appalling,” stated Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Torbenson during the sentencing on Friday.
Prince McCree was reported missing on October 25, 2023, after his mother allowed him to play video games in the basement of their residence, which they shared with David Pietura—another individual later sentenced to life imprisonment in this case. When she was unable to locate her son later that day, she alerted the police, according to FOX 6.
