Florida woman mauled in dog attack
New details are surfacing about earlier complaints involving the dogs authorities say fatally attacked a Florida woman, as investigators also examine a separate and unusual development tied to the case.
Jodi Cowan died after she was mauled on May 19, and the dogs’ owner, Linda Cutler, was later arrested, according to authorities. Video of the attack was provided by Dominica Midkiff.
In a separate investigation, officials have opened a criminal case after three dogs were discovered dead at the travel trailer where Cowan had been living at the time of the attack.
Deputies were called to the property on June 11 after receiving a report of a foul odor coming from the residence, said Tod Goodyear, public information officer for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Goodyear said the investigation remains active as authorities wait for examinations of the dogs to determine how they died.
“The case is ongoing awaiting an examination of the dogs to determine the cause of death,” Goodyear said. “Charges would depend on the outcome of the necropsies and the cause of death. The residence was under the control of the boyfriend of Cowan.”
