Daredevil who performed at Super Bowl with Madonna killed in Utah canyon BASE jump

Andy Lewis, the daredevil athlete who thrilled millions during Madonna’s 2012 Super Bowl halftime show, died Sunday in a BASE jumping accident in a remote Utah canyon.

Lewis, 39, was found dead alongside an unidentified 50-year-old man after what authorities described as a failed jump at Mineral Bottom, a rugged desert area near the Utah-Colorado border. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths in a news release.

Known for his high-risk performances and fearless style, Lewis became a breakout figure after appearing in Madonna’s widely watched Super Bowl halftime spectacle in 2012.

In one of the show’s most memorable moments, Lewis, dressed in a Roman-style toga, performed intricate maneuvers on a line just an inch wide as Madonna sang before a massive television audience.

Beyond the spotlight, Lewis was also the owner of BASE Jump Moab, a company in Moab, Utah, that offered guided experiences for first-time jumpers. Moab is located about 30 miles from Mineral Bottom, where the fatal accident occurred.
