Live explosive device found near Homeland Security office in Cleveland, forcing mass evacuations

Authorities evacuated a Homeland Security office near Cleveland on Monday after a suspicious package discovered nearby was reportedly found to contain a live explosive device.

The package was located inside an office complex in Brooklyn Heights, leading officials to clear at least seven surrounding buildings, according to FOX 8 News.

FOX 8 confirmed that one of the agencies operating at 925 Keynote Circle is a Cleveland-area Homeland Security office. According to ICE’s website, the site serves as a satellite office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the agency’s Detroit Field Office.

The complex is also home to other federal operations, including the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor and ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations bond acceptance facilities, according to government websites. It remains unclear whether those offices were among the buildings evacuated or otherwise impacted by the incident.

FOX 8 said the device was identified after a law enforcement K-9 alerted investigators to a suspicious package that was later determined to contain the explosive.

Investigators reportedly secured the scene, and authorities evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution.

Cleveland 19 also reported that an adjacent road was closed.
