FBI top 10 fugitive Arnoldo Jimenez, arrested in fatal 2012 stabbing of newlywed Estrella Carrera in Burbank, brought to Chicago

BURBANK, Ill. — A man sought by the FBI for more than a decade in the killing of his newlywed wife in suburban Burbank has been returned to Chicago after his arrest in Mexico last year, officials said Thursday.

The case dates back to May 2012, when 26-year-old Estrella Carrera was found stabbed to death in the bathtub of her apartment in the 7800 block of South Rutherford, according to police. Investigators said she was still wearing her wedding dress.

Authorities issued an arrest warrant days later for Carrera’s husband, Arnoldo Jimenez, who had recently married her.

Jimenez was taken into custody in January 2025 in Monterrey, Mexico, the FBI’s Chicago field office said. At the time, he was listed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

The FBI said Mexican authorities assisted in the arrest, while Burbank police also played a role in the investigation and eventual capture of Jimenez.

FBI Chicago confirms arrested Jimenez with help from authorities in Mexico. The FBI also credits Burbank police in the tracking and capture of Jimenez.

“Jimenez was wanted in connection with the murder of Estrella Carrera who was found deceased less than 48 hours after their wedding,” the FBI said in a news release Thursday. “No matter how much time has passed or where a criminal may be in the world, the FBI will never stop in our pursuit of justice.”

Officials shared an image of Jimenez, on Thursday, over a year after his arrest in Mexico, confirming he has now been captured and brough to Chicago.

No further information about the next steps for Jimenez was available.
