Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Daemani Kiara King, 20, is facing a felony battery charge after police said she attacked a friend in March, causing injuries that required emergency medical treatment.

Gainesville Police Department officers responded at about 12:10 a.m. on March 1 to Canopy Apartments, located at 4400 SW 20th Avenue. According to the report, King and two other unidentified women allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face, head, and upper body. Police reported that the victim sustained a large bump on her forehead, numerous bruises, a swollen eye, swollen and cut lips, a chipped tooth, and several cuts to her face and arms.

An officer described the injuries as serious and permanent, noting that the victim’s front tooth had been chipped and that other wounds were likely to leave scars. The victim was taken to an emergency room for treatment.

The report also stated that King and the victim were close friends and had known each other for several months.

King, who is classified as a designated violent felony offender of special concern, has been charged with felony battery. Court records show she has one prior violent felony conviction and one non-violent misdemeanor conviction. She is currently on probation after entering a plea of nolo contendere to aggravated battery in a case involving an allegation that she threw bleach on a victim when she was 18. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $15,000 on the new charge, but King is also being held without bail pending the resolution of her probation violation case.
