Nancy Guthrie Case: Second Note To Media Says Savannah Guthrie’s Mom Is Dead

A disturbing new development has emerged in the case of Nancy Guthrie.

According to NBC News, a second letter sent to news organizations after the February disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother claimed the 84-year-old had died.

While authorities were already aware that the note existed, its contents had not previously been disclosed. Three people familiar with the investigation told the outlet that the message did not include an apology or any demand for money in exchange for the return of her body.

Investigators working on the Guthrie case have reviewed two letters sent to media outlets and determined they are “potentially credible,” NBC News reported. Both notes were sent to KOLD news director Jessica Bobula.

What Could Have Happened to Nancy Guthrie?

The 84-year-old was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31 in the Catalina Foothills area near her Tucson, Ariz., home. Her family reported her missing the following day, on Feb. 1.

Her whereabouts are still unknown.

Savannah Guthrie’s Plea For Her Mother’s Return

Following the frightening news of her mother’s disappearance, the Today cohost appealed directly to the public for help.

“We still believe in a miracle, we still believe that she can come home,” she said in an Instagram video posted Feb. 24. “We need to know where she is. We need her to come home.”

The 54-year-old revealed at the time that her family was offering a reward of up to $1 million dollars, which “will be paid only for the recovery of Nancy Guthrie.”

Recent Updates in The Case

On May 9, three months after her disappearance, the Tuscon Police Department confirmed that a human bone had been found seven miles from her residence.

But, the finding was “not criminal in nature,” a spokesperson for the police told People. Noting that it was a “prehistoric anthropological investigation.”

A day later on May 10, Savannah posted an emotional Mother’s Day message to her mom.

“We miss you with every breath,” she wrote. “We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”

The FBI is also offering a reward of up to one hundred thousand dollars “for information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”
