A San Francisco supervisor who unexpectedly stepped away from her role earlier this year is expected to return to City Hall next Monday, according to fellow members of the Board of Supervisors.
Supervisors Myrna Melgar and Rafael Mandelman said Jacqueline Fielder has informed them that she intends to come back from leave ahead of her previously scheduled June 30 return date.
Fielder, a progressive member of the Board of Supervisors who represents District 9, began an unanticipated absence in late March. She later said publicly that she would take additional time away from her official duties to focus on stabilizing her health.
In a March statement, her office said Fielder wanted to “regain stable health so she can thoughtfully and responsibly consider her options,” a comment that came as speculation grew over whether she might resign.
Several days later, her staff said Fielder was not planning to leave office at that point. Instead, they said, she would temporarily step back from day-to-day oversight of the District 9 office for three months while concentrating on her recovery.

District 9 includes the Bernal Heights, Portola and Mission neighborhoods.
Fielder’s leave began as her office faced increased public attention, including a review connected to a City Attorney investigation into a leaked internal memo.
The memo reportedly detailed possible legal issues related to the proposed RESET Center, a city-operated sobering facility planned for Sixth Street.
Around the same time, one of her four legislative aides left the office unexpectedly, though her chief of staff rejected any suggestion that staff members were involved in the leak.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Mission District continues to grapple with longstanding challenges including homelessness and open-air drug use.
